Our Cambridge event sells out!

The Behavioural Architects are sponsoring a University of Cambridge talk - 'The Flawed Dominance of Economics' - and following dinner later this year. Launched earlier this month, it sold out in a matter of days!

The event - to be held on 4th December at King's College and organised by the Cambridge University Science and Policy Exchange - will question how the social sciences (apart from economics) could play a more substantive role in government decision-making.

Speakers will include:

  • James Wilsdon, Chairman of the Campaign for Social Science,
  • Paul Wiles, Former Chief Government Social Scientist,
  • Stewart Wallis, Executive Director of the New Economics Foundation and
  • Rory Sutherland, Vice Chairman of Ogilvy Group.

Overview of the talk: The talk will discuss how, although economics continues to be the dominant academic discipline within government decision-making worldwide, this dominance has recently been threatened. Economics has undergone severe criticism in the wake of the financial crisis, both for economists failing to predict the crisis and for disagreeing violently with each other about what to do about it. Critics have called for wider perspectives, drawing from other areas of social science such as psychology, sociology, geography, and criminology, to be brought into the policy-making process.
